The following sources were used to add perspectives and insights to the content of the 2nd Renaissance freesite.
Readers of 2nd Renaissance should understand the following points.
There Are Many Contributions, But Few Complete Maps of 2R Transformation The various authors cited are contributors to the 2nd Renaissance. Each provides some information or insights into the way the next level of civilization is unfolding around us. However, none of the authors of the sources listed below have written about all the changes ahead. They have made contributions in various areas rather than addressing the overall pattern of transformation.
The 2nd Renaissance freesite is an attempt to present a broad and cohesive view of the radical changes that our society can, and must accomplish. Hopefully, more writers and commentators will soon join the fray, and refine the logic and perspectives involved. - With the possible exception of Daniel Quinn, none of the authors appear to advocate secession from the failed systems of federalism that currently afflict humanity. Yet, this option needs to be debated and progressed. It is potentially the path of least bloodshed, on the way to freedom and a Level 4 Civilization.
- Apart from Peter Plichta and Julian Barbour, none of the scientific authors seem likely to accept the assertion that the established notion of space-time is erroneous. But, it is the process of overturning such entrenched ideas that is driving knowledge and technology forward. Until the flame of revisionist thought is widely and unrelentingly applied to the old knowledge edifices of the Level 3 Civilization, we will remain trapped therein.
- Many of the authors listed might not accept the premise that ancient civilizations possessed advanced knowledge of astronomy, geometry and other sciences. But, some of the listed authors do accept this notion, and their contributions are significant.
The 2nd Renaissance Freesite Is Anti-Failed-Ideas Those readers of 2nd Renaissance who consider it anti-capitalist and anti-American, and therefore decide to tar the listed authors with the same simplistic brush, should first note the following facts. - None of the works cited could be described as anti-American or anti any other nationality. Many of the authors live and work in the US.
- The many criticisms of capitalism, nationalism, and militarism that form part of the content of the 2nd Renaissance site are not directed at individual citizens, or even their elected representatives. Nor are the criticisms of institutionalised science and the inaccurate portrayal of history aimed at individual scientists, historians or educators.
- The criticisms outlined in the 2nd Renaissance site are directed at outdated thinking and stale mindsets. The very future of humanity now depends on our discarding a host of old notions, structures and institutions that are clear failures. The 2nd Renaissance freesite is anti-failure. It supports the earliest possible development of a Level 4 Civilization.
- The core tactic for economic, social and political transformation that is advocated on the 2nd Renaissance site is not bloody revolution, it is peaceful abandonment. We have to let go of the old failurisims, and quickly claim the bright future that technologically driven abundance can provide.
Sources Cited in the 2nd Renaissance Content All of the following sources are worth reading in your search for understanding of the 2nd Renaissance. Just don't expect them all to echo the logic of the 2nd Renaissance freesite. Some authors will, in part, hold conflicting views on the subject. Here's the list. Decide for yourself. Other Sources Referenced or Worth Reading There are many sources that contain insights and information relevant to the 2nd Renaissance. The following list is only a small selection of such works. Again, readers should not expect to necessarily find the broad logic of the transformation in these books. Many contain segments that are relevant, but mixed with notions that are not central to the 2nd Renaissance logic, or are even contradictory to it. You need to read them with this in mind, and seek to identify the relevant ideas and information within the wider subject matter of each book. For example, Rupert Sheldrake's best selling, Seven Experiments That Could Change the World, is not listed below because it discusses subjects such as the amazing homing behaviour of certain animals, or the phenomenon of phantom limbs. Sheldrake's book is listed for its coverage of the way institutionalised science works, and how it presents as absolute truth notions that are merely theories.
In this edition of Sources I've added authors and titles that pertain to the various freesites that complement the original 2nd Renaissance document. Thus, although I might not provide the full publication details of books mentioned or quoted from in freeites such as Ancestors, or The Animals Regret, you should be able to find that information below.

Internet Sources Considerable use was made of the WWW in researching the 2nd Renaissance freesite, and there are many quotes from web pages in that publication. The best way to locate such quoted material is by keyword searches. If the material is still available on the WWW you will, most likely, find it. If not, it has probably been taken down, archived, blocked, or something else has destroyed it. Keyword searching is generally a better approach than referring to a list of often stale URLs. It is usually possible to obtain a copy of a cited book, but web pages are much more transient.
I hope you find 2nd Renaissance and its sources both interesting and helpful in making sense of the turbulent, but enormously hopeful, times we live in.
Lothar, December, 2005.
